OMAHA — Hell's Angels came to Omaha on Wednesday, August 29, 1979, to attend services for one of their members, 32-year-old Lance Kress.

Kress, an Omaha resident and former Midwest Golden Gloves champion, was killed in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, August 25, while attending a Hell's Angels gathering in Cody, Wyoming. Kress was a member of a contingent of 110 to 150 club members who had camped for the past week in nearby mountain country.

The accident happened about 14 miles west of Cody. Authorities said Kress, who was headed eastbound, lost control of his motorcycle after apparently entering a curve too fast. He went into a slide, left the vehicle and fell into the front end of the westbound car.

His services were attended by more than 400 mourners, including Hell's Angels from Ohio, North and South Carolina, New York, California, Connecticut, Nebraska, Quebec and elsewhere. About 75 motorcycles lined 24th Street and spilled into the funeral home parking lot. A speaker was connected to carry music from the funeral home to listeners outside. The Hell's Angels formed a procession for the trip to Pisgah, Iowa, where Kress was buried.
