Joan Mae Cowell, 75, of Charles City, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013. Private family burial for Joan Cowell will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Joan Mae Krumrey Cowell was born August 19, 1937, at Charles City, the daughter of William and Daisy Mae (Cross) Krumrey. She attended school in Charles City. In May 1958, Joan was united in marriage to Allen Cowell in Albert Lea, Minn. The couple made their home in Charles City raising their family of five children. She loved spending time with her family and pets (dog Marly and cat Oscar), listening to music, watching television and reading the Bible. Joan's family was very special to her.

Living family members include three children: Cindy (Tim) Kielman of Phoenix, Ariz., James (Katie) Cowell of Charles City and Ramona (Doug) Bailey of Charles City; nine grandchildren: Faithann (Aaron) White, Christina (Paul) Roethler, Aranda Cowell (friend Cory Poyner), Kenny (Kourtney) Hearn, Sami Freerks, Jeremiah (Lisa) Cowell, Elizabeth (Brad) Heinold, Tonya Bailey and Tara Bailey; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ethel Bledsoe of Charles City and Avis Nelson of Waterloo; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Allen; twin daughters: Toni Harris and Terri Hearn; one sister; and six brothers.
