H. Conrad came to Wilcox County, Alabama from the Orangeburg and Sumter areas of South Carolina, a few years after 1830. He married Elizabeth White in South Carolina, 16 April 1801. They had five daughers and one son, Henry. Their daughters were Margaret A., Ann Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Julia A., and Mary Sowerhaver. Three of his daughers came to Wilcox County: Margaret A. Andrews, Ann Elizabeth Compton, and Julia A. Compton. His grandson, Henry M. Sowerhaver was a minor when Conrad passed away and living in Sumter District of South Carolina, listed as a student. It is believed that Conrad's wife, Elizabeth White, died in South Carolina before 1822. Conrad's Will is on record in Wilcox County, AL, Book 2, Roll 29, Archives Collection #SG031430. There are many variant spellings of his surname, but the one used in Wilcox County legal records was Sowerhaver. (Sauerhaver, Sauerhief, Sawerhaver Sourhaver, Sauerhauffer, Sourhaffle, Sauerhaffen, and Sauerhafin among the spellings found in S.C.) His son, Henry, was christened Henry Sauerhafin, January 19, 1804 in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Orangeburg, S.C.
