Gwen Manning Knight, 68, of Brunswick, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2PM Friday, July 5, 2013 at Sterling Church of God with Rev. Peggy Delvecchio, Rev. Bobby Miller, and Rev. Larry Daughtry, officiating. Interment will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons Island with Ryan Defilippo, Robert Knowles Jr., Paul Manning, Robyn Gomez, Sidney Gonzalez, and Thomas Martin serving as pallbearers.
Born October 8, 1944 in Glynn County Georgia to the late Dock Manning and Bessie Mobley, she resided in Brunswick for most of her life. Ms. Knight attended Glynn Academy and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a homemaker and former switchboard operator for First American Home Health Care. Ms. Knight was a member of Sterling Church of God, and enjoyed cooking, crochet, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Mark Vaughn Knight, a sister Paulette Manning Knowles, and a brother Paul Manning.
Survivors include a son, Ritchard Knight and wife Maria of Pompano Beach, FL, two daughters, Marla Knight Gomez and husband Robyn of Brunswick, and Paige Knight Defilippo and husband Larry of Groveland, FL, five grandchildren, Jordan Martin, Dayne Gomez, Ryan Defilippo, Logan Defilippo, and Peyton Defilippo, three great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a former husband, Bobby J. Knight.
