HOPEDALE - Norma Louise Hopkins, 92, of Hopedale died at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at Hopedale Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Daniel and Salome Bolliger Davies. She married Robert E. Hopkins Jr. on June 24, 1938, in rural Hopedale. He died Feb. 19, 1994.

Surviving are three sons, William R. (and Maizie) Hopkins of Tremont, John E. (and Barb) Hopkins of Minier and The Honorable Robert M. (and Kathy) Hopkins of Lawrenceville; one son-in-law, Gary D. (and Linda) Goeken of Decatur; eight grandchildren, Trenton W. Hopkins (fiancee Diana) of Washington, Taira L. (and Jeff) Kline of Itasca, William J. (and Darlene) Hopkins of Minier, Jessica M. (and Mike) Deterding of Minier, Nicholas D. Hopkins and Gwendolyn N. Hopkins, both of Lawrenceville, Cynthia L. (and Michael) Gann of El Dorado Hills, Calif., and Amy L. (and Brad) Palmer of Columbus, Ga.; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Hopkins and Sharon Goeken; and one grandson, Douglas Goeken.

Norma was a member of the Hopedale United Methodist Church, where she sang in and directed the church choir. She was a member of the Women's Society of the church and also directed the junior choir.

She was one of the founders of Tazewell County Rural Youth and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Tazewell County Home Extension and the Delavan Garden Club.

Mrs. Hopkins graduated from Hopedale High School in 1932 and attended Bradley University.

She taught at Maiden Lane country school in rural Tremont and also in the Pekin School System. She taught kindergarten at Hopedale for several years and was a news correspondent for the Pekin Times and Pantagraph newspapers.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Hopedale United Methodist Church. Pastor Bruce Bolin Ghitalla will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday at Davis Mortuary, Hopedale Chapel. Burial will be in Briggs Cemetery in rural Minier.

Memorials may be made to her church or Hopedale Nursing Home.
