PORTSMOUTH - Charles August Broadbent, 52, of the 5000 block of Johnson Ave., died Nov. 1, 2002, in Portsmouth.

Mr. Broadbent, born in Bridgeport, Conn., lived in the Tidewater area most of his life. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired from the Army National Guard with 22 years of service, and worked with shipping and receiving department at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of West Park Church of Christ.

Survivors include his parents, George J. and Irene E. Broadbent of Newport News; a brother, Paul E. Broadbent of Portsmouth; two sisters, Barbara Brenzel of Newport News and Carol Schielie of Chicago, Ill.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth.
