Richard Lee "Red" Keeling, 86, of Anderson, died June 13, 2010, at his home in Anderson following an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 7, 1923, to Charles and Edith (Hamilton) Keeling. He attended schools in Terhune and Sheridan, Ind. He worked as a tool and die maker at Delco Remy for 43 years, retiring in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with Merrill's Marauders receiving the Bronze Star.

He was a charter member and deacon of New Hope Christian Church where he served as cabinet chairman and was known as the "gum man" to all the kids. He was a 50-year member of Solar Masonic Lodge.

He never saw a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and attending all the grandkids and great-grandkids activities. He loved being with his family and church family.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Barbara (Wood) Keeling of Anderson, whom he married March 28, 1947; two daughters, Joyce (Roger) Hill of Michigan and Ginger (Gary) Fisher of Anderson; four grandchildren, Greg (Keri) Fisher of Anderson, Ginay (Brad) Bowman of Greenfield, Brodey (Dianne) Hill of Michigan, and Matthew (Ashleigh) Hill of California; eight great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jacob Fisher of Anderson, Mikayla, Allison and Madelyn Bowman of Greenfield, Harrison and Maggie Hill of Michigan, and Elijah Hill and expecting a new great-granddaughter of California; brother, Herb (Mary) Keeling of Greenwood; sister-in-law, Rosemary Conley; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Abbott and nurse Keri and Community Hospital emergency room and third-floor staff, Sharon, Heather and Lisa of Saint John's Hospice and Meadowbrooke Rehabilitation Center and staff, John Hannum and New Hope Church family for all the special care.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with the Rev. John Hannum of New Hope Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266 and National Guard honor guards.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to New Hope Christian Church.
