Mr. Dawson was born in Lawrence County, Ala. on Feb. 14, 1931, to Edward and Laura Dawson.
He was a faithful member of Leighton Baptist Church. Mr. Dawson worked at Reynolds Metals Company for 40 years and served as Business Agent for Aluminum Workers Local 200 and also served as Vice President of the International Aluminum Workers Union. Mr. Dawson was a Korean War veteran.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 11-1 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with burial to follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Mark Mayfield is officiating.
Mr. Dawson was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Fannie Maude Lovelady Dawson; and granddaughter, Angel Oliver.
He is survived by one brother, Harold Dawson (Betty), of Leighton; wife of 33 years, Joyce Goins Dawson; daughters, Brenda Dawson Thomas (Gerald), Nena Chapman (Timmy); sons, Terry Dawson (Darlene), Jeff Oliver, Tim Oliver (Melissa); grandchildren, Adam and Matthew Thomas, Joshua and Justin Dawson, Chris (Rachel), Courtney and Colton Chapman, Jessica Deville, Jason, Tyler, Robert Oliver, Will and Grace Ann Oliver; great-grandchildren, Dylan Jeffreys, Jackson and Olivia Chapman.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Dawson's Sunday school class.
