Delwyn Florian Berger, 53, Mandan, died April 18, 2009, at Medcenter One, Bismarck, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Chad Gion as celebrant. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan with a parish rosary/vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Delwyn was born Dec. 21, 1955, in Mandan to William A. and Beatrice (Fleck) Berger. Graduating from Mandan High School, he worked in construction as a carpenter and a Millwright for the Local 1091 for 29 years throughout the country building power plants.

Best remembered as fun, open-minded and outgoing with an incredible sense of humor. An appreciation for the outdoors he liked to camp, hunt, fish, go four-wheeling and loved to ride his Harley. Delwyn had many interests, especially collecting arrowheads and Indian artifacts, coins and guns. He took great pride in his 55 variations of German red eye. With a competitive edge, he played softball, darts, horseshoes and pool. During Delwyn's illness, he displayed courage with a positive attitude and was an inspiration to his family. He took his illness as a challenge, looking to the Lord for strength and faith. Delwyn loved organizing family gatherings and spending time with those he loved. Family was a source of strength, especially the genealogy of his family. Those who were blessed to share his life will forever remember this wonderful man and carry his spirit in their heart.

Left with wonderful memories and an example of a life well-lived are his children, Dylan and Megan Berger, Bismarck; his parents, Bill and Beatrice Berger, Mandan; six sisters, Karen Rohr (fiancee, Lynn Bergman), Mandan, Jolene (Vern) Miller, Mapleton, Michelle Berger, Melanie (Nathan) Schlosser, Nadine Berger, and DeeAnn (Jason) Jahner, all of Mandan; seven brothers, Doug (Diana) Berger, Duluth, Minn., Darrold (Radene) Berger, Glen Ullin, DeWayne Berger, Superior, Wis., Donovan (Jacki) Berger, Foxboro, Wis., Dale (Marcia) Berger, Mandan, Dean Berger, Prescott, Wis., and Darren Berger, Mandan; 33 nieces and nephews, including Jobie Crowley and Jared Berger, the children of his deceased twin brother; 11 great-nieces and -nephews; and family friend, Buff Frank.

Delwyn was preceded in death by his twin brother, Durwin; his sister-in-law, Connie; his brother-in-law, Tim Rohr; and his grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used to purchase bat racks at the Mandan Ball Diamonds in memory of Delwyn. Make checks payable to Karen Rohr.
