Ila Vivian Pettay-Long was born April 13, 1924, in Uhrichsville, Ohio. She was the daughter of Ira and Hazel (Boals) Pettay. She had lived in Portage County since 1952 and previously in Massillon, Ohio. Mrs. Long was co-owner of Long's Greenhouse in Kent and was a buyer for W.T. Grant in Kent. She was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church in Stow and the Order of the Eastern Star Olive, Chapter No. 53 in Kent.
She was married to Harry Long for 56 years, who passed away in 1998. She had two children: Gary Long of Ravenna, Ohio and Beverly Jean Long-Picklesimer of Roanoke, Virginia. She was survived by sisters Donna M. Leighley and Norma Jean Turkal, and a brother Ronald Ira Pettay of Tampa, Florida.
