Aberdeen: Memorial service for Rex Nelson, 85, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 502 S. Lincoln St., Aberdeen, with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at the mortuary.


Rex passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.

Rex was born on Sept. 14, 1927, to Burt and Agnes (Peterson) Nelson in Faulk County, S.D. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School and then worked for John Morrseth.

Rex and Shirley Bates were united in marriage on June 7, 1953, in Rapid City. They made Aberdeen their home, where he drove truck for Schnerlley Construction and later was employed with Crawford Trucks and Equipment Inc. until he retired.

Rex enjoyed hunting, fishing and visiting with people.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents; two brothers: Dwayne and Dyarld Nelson; and three sisters: Callista Daly, Patricia Metzinger and Lorna Mae Pogue.

Grateful to have shared Rex's life is his daughter, Kristie (Wayne) Frederick of Red Wing, Minn.; and his grandchildren: Shawn, Shannon and Ashley.
