Robert F. McQueen age 84 of Port Orange, FL, formerly of Brookfield, CT, died Thursday June 27, 2013 in Halifax Hospital, Port Orange, FL. He was the husband of the late Ellen (Marcinko) McQueen, to whom he was married for 19 years before her passing in 1969.
Robert was born July 26, 1928 in New Milford, CT, a son of the late Daniel and Gladys (Krieger) McQueen. He was a graduate of New Milford High School After high school he served in the US Army from 1946-48 with a rank of T-5 Corporal. Upon returning from the military he attended the General Motors Institute, Flint MI from 1948- 1950. Robert was employed as an insurance adjuster with Royal Insurance Co. for 25 years, Hanover Insurance Co. for 5 years and continued to work after moving to Florida in 1983, retiring in 1990. His interests included, road trips, shuffle board, classic car clubs, the beach and NASCAR. Robert was Past President of the Brookfield Lions Club and the Candlewood Shores Property Owners Association 1968-69. He was also a member of the Racing Society, Daytona Beach, FL.
Robert is survived by four sons David and his wife Margaret; Gary and his wife Alice; Bruce and his spouse Roger and Kevin and his wife Lisa; his daughter Diane Simone and her husband Perry; a step-son Scott Heap and his wife Carole; a step daughter Laurie Craig and his sister Janice Sansom. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and his long- time companion and best friend Audrey Dish.
Funeral service will be held in the Colonial Funeral Home 87 Park Lane RD, New Milford, CT on Wednesday morning at 11 AM. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, New Milford.
Family will receive friends in the Colonial Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 PM.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of ones choice.
