Queen of Iran and first wife of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi known as last king of the Pahlavi Dynasty. She was the oldest member of the former ruling dynasty of Egypt, which ended with Fuad II of Egypt, her nephew. She was born at the Raʾs al-Tin royal palace in Alexandria, daughter of the sultan of Egypt later King Fuad I of Egypt and his second wife Nazli Sabri. Descendant of the noble dynasty of Mehmet Ali, Fawzia grew up together with her sisters Faiza, Faika, Fathiya and her brother, the heir to the throne of Egypt. She married the young Crown Prince of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, in Cairo March 16, 1939, and after the honeymoon, the wedding ceremony was repeated in Tehran. Two years later, Prince Mohamed Reza came to the throne and was then crowned emperor of Iran. On September 21, 1942, photos of the marriage of Fawzia appeared on Life magazine delighting with her charm thousands of people around the world. The marriage with the Shah of Persia was not a success. After the birth of a daughter, Princess Shahnaz Pahlavi, she obtained a legal separation from her husband by the Egyptian government in 1945, and later returned to Cairo. The divorce was obtained and accepted in Iran November 17, 1948, and with her renunciation of the crown of Iran, Fawzia resumed her royal title as Princess of Egypt. Following the coup d'etat carried out by Colonel Nasser in 1952, and following the collapse of the monarchy, Princess Fawzia was exiled with her brother and the whole royal family of Egypt.
