Luther E. ‘Peanut' Amaker -- Orangeburg
Funeral services for Mr. Luther E. "Peanut" Amaker, 71, of 2439 Broughton St., Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Edisto Fork United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Hayes T. Gainey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Broughton Street.
Luther Edward "Peanut" Amaker was born Oct. 15. 1941, in Orangeburg, to the late Luther Amaker and Adell Bellinger Amaker. Mr. Amaker enetered into eternal rest Wednesday, June 26, at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg.
Edward was a well loved and respected husband, stepfather, brother and nephew. He was a member of True Spirit Life Outreach Ministry, Orangeburg. Edward attended the public schools of Orangeburg and graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1958. He continued his education at Claflin University, graduating in 1962 with a B.S. degree in mathematics. His first teaching job was in Aiken County at A.L. Corbett Middle School in Wagener. He taught at Bethune Memorial High School, Bowman, and in Orangeburg County School District 4. He ended his teaching career at Allendale-Fairfax High School, Allendale County. Edward retired from teaching after a 30-year career in education. God gave Edward the gifts of organization, stewardship, motivation and counseling. He applied these gifts by tutoring young people and leading them to Christ, exemplifying stewardship and a zest for living life and serving as God ordered his steps. Edward had a brother, Gayland "Lin" Amaker, who preceded him in death.
Edward leaves to cherish his memory a beloved wife, Apostle Dr. Nancy "Betty" Sistrunk Amaker of the home; four stepchildren, Michael Dickson of Columbia, Ronald (Tawana) Johnson of Baltimore, Patrick (Monique) Dickson of Waterbury, Conn., and Carl (April) Dickson of Orangeburg; four siblings, Albert D. Amaker of Orangeburg, David D. (Alice) Amaker of Orangeburg, Margaret Amaker (Tim) Young of Ornageburg and Marietta Joy (Willie) Parson of Alpharetta, Ga.; two aunts, Dorothy Bellinger Bovian and Ruth Bellinger (Willmon) Smith, both of Orangeburg; 34 step-grandchildren; and a total of 11 nieces and nephews. Edward also leaves cousins, in-laws and friends who will miss him dearly.
Glover's Funeral Home in Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.
