Phillip Cavnar

Phil died Thursday, July 7, 2005, from a heart attack while jogging near his home. He was the middle son born July 21, 1960, to Ronnie Forrest Cavnar and Doris Chatham Cavnar of Decatur. Phil loved his family, coaching football, golfing and fishing. He was a Christian and a member of the Baptist faith.

After graduating from Austin High School and Athens State University, Phil went on to become a high school football coach. He spent some time coaching at Austin, Phil Campbell, and was head football coach at East Limestone High School for the past 15 years. He won over 100 games as head coach at East Limestone, and his teams reached the playoffs 10 out of the last 12 years. THE DECATUR DAILY named him coach of the year twice.

Phil is survived by his parents, Ronnie and Doris Cavnar of Decatur; his brothers, Randy F. Cavnar of Hartselle and Michael Scott Cavnar and his wife, Tonya, of Athens; aunts; uncles; cousins and many friends and colleagues.

Pallbearers will be Randy Cavnar, Jeff Cagle, Pierre, Coggins, Steve Davis, Jimmy Drake, Barry Gibson, Steve Hargrove and Steve Meek.

Honorary pallbearers will be past and present football players and coaches.
