From the "Schell City News", Vernon County, Missouri, Thursday Feb. 1, 1917:

Mrs. S. F. Hicks Dead

An old resident of this city died at Pittsburg, Kansas.
The sad news reached this city Monday that Mrs. Shelby Hicks has passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 1917 at the home of her daughter at Pittsburg, Kansas after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Oleva Muse was born in Pettis County, Mo. Jan. 27, 1847 and was 70 years and 1 day of age. She was married to Shelby F. Hicks Feb. 6, 1867. To this union were born ten children, 8 of whom with the husband still survive. The children are James Hicks, deceased, Mrs. N. E. Clopton, St. Louis, Frank Hicks, Ben W. Hicks, Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Lola Young, Pittsburg, Ks.; Tony Hicks, deceased; Arthur Hicks, Kansas City and Mollie Bird Pittsburg, Kans.; and Mrs. Maggie Reed Brawley, Calif.
She united with the Baptist Church at Mount Enid and lived a Christian life until the Lord called her home to be with him in that land of happiness. Besides the grieved family, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Mollie Eppenaur Martin of Lawrence, Kansas to morn her loss.
Mrs. Hicks and family have been residents of this city for many years where they have a large circle of friends who mourn with the bereaved family.
The remains were brought to this city Tuesday morning and funeral services were conducted from the Baptist Church that afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. W.S. Bayne and the remains laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery. The husband is also very feeble and was unable to accompany the remains here.

Note: It is evident that Dorothy may have "skipped a line" in her transcription as Oleva's sister was NEVER married to an Eppenaur. She was married to A.E. Robertson and after his death, she stayed a widow. SO, do NOT know who the relatives were in this part of the obituary. Maybe there was a Eppenaur Martin and a whole line was left out. There is a Death Certificate for a Joseph Eppenauer who was born in Ohio but died in Nevada, Vernon County on June 29, 1917. He was a Merchant SO most probably he was a close acquaintenace of Shelby and Oleva
