Steven Alan Henning, age 60, native of Hawesville, Kentucky and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on June 29, 2013 at Baton Rouge General Medical Center, Bluebonnet. Dr. Henning was a retired LSU associate Professor from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. He served as the Undergraduate Coordinator of the Agricultural Business degree program. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kentucky. He also earned a Master of Science from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. from Mississippi State University, both in Agricultural Economics. He taught undergraduate courses in agricultural policy and rural land appraisal. His areas of research interest included rural land markets in Louisiana and the adoption of best management practices in agricultural production. Dr. Henning served as President and International President of the Honor Society of Agriculture Gamma Sigma Delta. He received numerous awards for undergraduate teaching, including the LSU Tiger Athletic Foundation President's Award and LSU College of agriculture NACTA Teaching Award. Steve will be missed by many and remembered for his great generosity and kind spirit.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mabel Henning; and siblings, Michael Henning and Marilyn Henning West; Steve is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Brenda Henning; son, Christopher Henning and wife Tara; grandchildren, Catherine, Caroling and Gavin Henning; and brother, Gerald Henning.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm, Tuesday, July 2, 2013 until funeral service at 2:00 pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home. Interment will be at New Goodhope Baptist Cemetery in Pulaski, Mississippi on Wednesday, July 3, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, 550 Lobdell Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806, of a charity of your choice.
