METTER, Ga. - Mrs. Nita Turner Morgan, age 92, died Sunday evening at the Azalea Health and Rehabilitation in Metter. The Bulloch County native moved to Savannah at the age of 18. She resided in Bermuda during World War II and returned to Savannah following the war. Mrs. Morgan began her employment with Central of Georgia Railroad and Southern Railway in 1952, retiring after many years of service. She spent most of her life in Savannah and lived in Atlanta for several years. She retired to North Carolina and resided there for several years, moving to Metter in 2008. Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband, Corley Morgan; brothers and sisters, Jacquelyn Dickerson, Betty Vogel, Leslie Turner, Rita Wall and Nelson Turner.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet West of Apex, N.C.; her grandchildren, Helen West, Curtis West, Daniel West, Sylvia West and Donna Cortez; and four brothers, M.W. (June) Turner of Washington state, Jimmy (Marie) Turner of Faulkville, Jon (Mary) Turner of Savannah and Remer Turner of Metter. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive visitors from 10-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The graveside service and burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Alderman Family Cemetery with the Rev. Teal Jeffers officiating.
