His first marriage is to Sarah Estella "Sadie" Robinson in 1884, in Filmore Co., Minnesota. He has an oldest daughter, Mary, the result of this first marriage. A second child, Francis D. McKenny is born in 1898, but dies 7 months later. His first wife Sadie Duvall also dies in 1899, at age 22.
