Washington Irving Bullard (22 Feb 1881 Waltham, Middlesex, Massachusetts - 28 Jun 1948 Mecklenburg, N.C.).

Washington Irving Bullard was president of E.H. Jacobs Manufacturing with hundreds of employees and thousands of square feet of floor space in Connecticut, Rhode Island and South Carolina. He served a term as Vice-President of Merchants National Bank of Boston. He served on the board of directors at a score of corporations including Federal Mutual Liability Insurance Company and was trustee of the Andover Theological Seminary. He was a vocal and prolific promoter of equal civil rights for woman and published a "Women's Work in War Time," he was also involved in the development of the textile industry in the Southern United State and in Brazil and published "Brazil: The Promising Land" and "The quest of the long staple cotton." He was an inventor, patent holder and developed the modern loom used in textile mills around the world. His wife Annie was a descendant of the U.S. Consul to Brazil appointed by Thomas Jefferson. He traveled extensively around the world and had friends in many countries. A New York Times article features his heroic rescue of his son from a cable car accident in Brazil.

3) Edward Jacobs Bullard (1911 – 1972) married Jane L Longnecker (1914 –) child: Edward Hill Bullard.

On May 16 1931 in New York City, New York, Washington Irving Bullard married second Eleanor Gaither Clark (8 Apr 1900 Evanston, Cook, Illinois – 18 April 1996 Charlotte, Mecklenburg, N.C.) daughter of Robert Stuart Clark (1858 – 1953) and Anne Garnett Emory (1866 – 1945).

Washington Irving Bullard and Eleanor Gaither Clark had two daughters:

1) Sarah Clark Bullard.
