He was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Brownhelm. Wayne was raised in Brownhelm, graduating from Brownhelm High School in the class of 1945. He graduated from Norwalk Bible School with the class of 1957.
Wayne was employed at Lorain Telephone Company for 42 years, retiring in 1988 as a business system analyst. He was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church for over 50 years. Wayne was very active serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, leader in Awanas and sang in the choir and the men's quartet. He was a farmer for many years and loved the farm and animals. His hobbies included gardening and woodworking. Wayne loved spending time with his family and was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Colleen Standen (nee Jones); his sons and their wives, Wade E. and Barb Standen of Amherst, Scott A. and Debra Standen of Vermilion, Loren W. and Kathy Standen of South Amherst, David L. and Bridget Standen of Sheffield Lake and Todd W. and Patty Standen of Amherst; his daughters, Nancy (Anthony) Danicki of Berlin Heights and Cindy Washio of Lorain; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Dwight Standen of Clearwater, Fla.; sister. Grace Fritz of Groves, Texas; and his extended family member, Carol Standen of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Cora Standen (nee Stain); his sisters, Edna Miller, Mildred Henson, Mable Smith, Erma Sterna, Janice Greiner, Norma Wagner and Ada Standen; and his son-in-law, Raymond Washio II.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Faith Baptist Church, 440 North Lake St., Amherst. The Rev. Michael Plog will officiate. Burial will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
