Her family moved to Longview in 1949. She was a 1957 graduate of Spring Hill High School and attended Kilgore College. Mrs. Porter worked for Sunoco before she and her husband owned and operated Porter Services, a commercial plumbing company. Jo Ann was a past Board Member at Spring Hill Independent School District
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Porter
