Margaret Gilbert was the daughter of Ezekiel Gilbert and Elizabeth Jane McGuire. She came to the Territory of Kansas in 1859 with her parents and grew up in the area of Comet, Brown County, KS. She was first married to Henry Fortney and they had one son. After Henry died Margaret was second married 10 Sep 1887 in Brown County at the home of Justice of the Peace J.A. Bruce to Ezra Aaron Cleveland. To this marriage at least 10 children were born: Jesse, Bertha B., Lulu Leona, Ruth, Ernest, Sammy, Jenny, Maggie plus two unnamed children.
Margaret is buried in the Oak Hill cemetery in Lawrence Kansas but has no marker.

Death of Mrs. Maggie Cleveland
Mrs. Maggie Cleveland died at her home in Lawrence, this state, Friday, February 17, 1911, at the age of 55 years. Her husband and five children survive her. She also leaves three brothers and a sister, Hiram Gilbert and Will Gilbert, of near Fairview, James Gilbert, of Emporia, and Mrs. Elizabeth Robb, of Centralia. Hiram and his nephew, Oliver were with her a few days previous to her death and attended the funeral They returned here Monday. Interment was at the Lawrence cemetery. Cancer was the cause of her death, an operation having been performed about a week before her demise. Mrs. Gilbert resided on and owned what is now known as the Blaney farm, five miles south of Fairview, about 27 years ago.
