Minnie was the daughter of Fred and Cornelia (Vanden Bosch) Rietema, was born in Kanawha, Iowa. On February 22, 1939, Minnie was united in marriage with Edward Christians. To this union five children were born: Kathy, Carol, Nick, Paul and Donna. Together they made their home and engaged in farming in the Kanawha area until 1983, when they built a new home and moved to Kanawha.

An active member of the Wright Christian Reformed Church, Minnie served as a Sunday School teacher, was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society, and served on numerous committees.
