SANDPOINT, Idaho - Rita May Albano, 91, died Oct. 11, 2003, at the Valley Vista Care Center.
Rita was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Dubois, Idaho, to James F. and Belle Oakley Cleary, an early Idaho pioneer family.
In 1933 she married prominent rancher and politician Sidney C. Albano in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They combined seven children and became parents to six more. In 1942 they moved to Heron. Rita devoted her life to her family, which later included an adopted daughter, several minority foster children and her grandchildren.
After the death of her husband in 1972, Rita moved to Missoula and worked at various jobs. She was very active and held several offices in the Catholic Church and Democratic political organizations. In 1983 she was named Missoula County's Senior Citizen of the Year and state runner-up.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband Sidney C. Albano, youngest son Philip "Rusty" Albano, a stepdaughter, three stepsons and her three brothers.
She is survived by her [three] sons; [dive] daughters; [one] stepson; 41 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren. [Survivors names omitted.]
Mass of the Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Noxon Community Church with Father Ken Fortney of Thompson Falls as celebrant. Interment will follow at Noxon Cemetery.
