Tullahoma - Catherine Adams Shelton, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2018 with her daughter and special friend, Joyce at her side. Catherine, who was known as Granny by family, and even to those not related to her, made everyone she met family. She loved cooking large meals for everyone and no one ever left hungry. She enjoyed working puzzles with her caregivers and watching the deer and other animals from her home overlooking the lake.
Catherine attended Nashville Business College and Motlow College. She completed the Certificate Programs for Accounting Technology and Accounting Proficiency in 1973. She received her Associate in Science Degree (Cum Laude) in June 1973 from Motlow.
She worked at Arnold Engineering Development Center as a Technical Assistant for 35 years and retired from Calspan in 1992.
She was born in Jellico Creek, TN and was the daughter of Jess Walter and Ollie Virginia Dowell Adams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles William Shelton, an infant son, James M. Shelton, and another son, David William Shelton. One sister, Mary Adams Duvall; brothers, Conley Eugene Adams, Charles Frank Adams, Lawrence Hurstle Adams, Sherman Ray Adams, Cecil Melvin Adams, and Jess Charles Adams. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Shelton Utterback, Tullahoma, TN, two sons, Michael Charles Shelton, Euless TX and Timothy Wayne Shelton (Kimberly), Cowan, TN. Brother John Herman Adams (Maxine), Cincinnati, OH. Five grandchildren, Barry D. Shelton, San Antonio, TX, Clinton W. Utterback (Jessica), Tullahoma, TN, Kelly Shelton Bishop (Jason), Palmer, TX, Jennifer Monzingo Medina (John P), Mansfield, TX, Dian Shelton Parsons (Chad), San Antonio, TX. Five great-grandchildren, Rilee and Reese Matthews, Ben and Alex Medina and Kaiya Utterback. She has many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
