A memorial Mass will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, where she was a member. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline, with a wake service at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Robert Young Center, Rock Island.
Suzann Spencer was born April 21, 1937, in Normal, Ill., to Arthur and Mary Elizabeth Potts Spencer Sr.
Susie had wonderful memories of her school years. She recently had a special friend make her a scrapbook. She was a varsity cheerleader at Rocky. She was awarded the DAR award by her senior class. She entered nursing and was to graduate, but sacrificed to raise her family. She met and married Richard Eugene Murphy Nov. 12, 1956. She also organized and played for the Red Birds fast pitch softball team in the 1960s.
She loved people above all else. Her lifelong friends were Rita Murphy (sister-in-law), Lillian Wallace and Pat Blondell among many, many more. Everyone will remember Susie for her kindness and always thinking of others. May she rest in God's arms forever.
Survivors (and spouses) include her husband, Richard Eugene Murphy; mother, Mary Spencer; son, Christopher (Connie) Murphy; daughter, Jo Jean (David) DeGeeter; adopted sister, Susan Murphy; grandchildren, Davey and Amber DeGeeter, Eric and Derek Murphy and Colt; great-grandson, Kody Mason; niece, Susan ``Hope'' Kramer; nephew, Paul Spencer; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and her little dog, Molly. She was preceded in death by her father and brother, Arthur Spencer Sr. and Jr.
