George spent his entire adult life in and around Cedar Rapids. He was a farmer and mechanic. He met the attractive Inez Mildred Vredenburg and they were married February 5, 1921 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They had a marvelous family of 10: George Arnold F.A.G 6811233, Gladys Marie, Arlene Kathryn, Dorthy Evelyn, Mary Alice, Ruby Joan F.A.G. 86358137, Caroline Kaye, Cleve Edward, Mildred Leona "Millie" and John Franklin Jr.
George was in the U S Army during WW II, stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas.
George worked at Iowa Manufacturing Company in Cedar Rapids until his retirement. His entire family were musicians and George himself played the harmonica. The family would rent the hall in Robins and have a pot luck with music afterward that usually lasted until the wee hours of the next day. Many friends, relatives and neighbors, along with other musicians, often joined the group for a fun filled afternoon and/or evening.
George lost his hard fought battle with cancer February 19, 1978. Two days later, his wife Inez, of 57 years had a fatal heart attack. The children quickly made arrangements for a double funeral. It was an extremely hard and sad time for the bereaved family
