Born Dungannon, County Tyrone, Ireland. His parents were of scottish decent, having moved from Scotland to Ireland.
William Alexander married Ann Smith. About 1818, they came to the U.S., ssettling in West Virginia. About 5 yrs later, they moved to Jefferson co., Ohio, remaining there about seventeen years. In 1840, William and Ann and their eleven children moved to Morgan Co., IL.
William died at the home of his son-in-law, R. Fitch on August 6, 1872.
