Weldon T. "Sonny" Childers, 71, of Carbon Hill died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in the Carbon Hill Memory Gardens.Rev. Earl Freeman will officiate and Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper will direct. Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday in the parlor at the funeral home.Mr. Childers was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Carbon Hill where he was a Sunday School teacher and a choir member. He taught school in the Carbon Hill system for some 30 years. He was also a member of the Walker County Daffodil Society and had received many awards.He is survived by his sister, Leah Dunn, of Hueytown; nieces, Jeanne Wright and her husband, Lewis, of Tuscaloosa and Jessica Beasley of Leeds; nephews, Thomas Alan Beasley and his wife, Rhonda, of Kennedy and Weldon Rudy Beasley and his wife, Torrey, of Ft. Walton, Fla.; several great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Carbon Hill.
