Helen Birdsong went to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, June 27, 2013.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in Liberal Cemetery in Liberal, Kan. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Helen was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Peacock, Texas to Robert H. Graves and Laversia Alexander Graves. She was the youngest of six children.

Helen moved with her parents to Childress County, Heght Point Community in January 1927. She attended Height Point School.

Helen married the love of her life, John W. Birdsong, of Paris, Texas, on Oct. 23, 1943. To this union was born one son, John W. Birdsong. They raised one foster son, Joseph Serrato.

Helen and John moved to Turpin, May 31, 1960. John passed away on Dec. 5, 1968 in Liberal, Kansas.

Helen went to work at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal in 1969. She worked 27 years there. She moved to Fritch to be near her brother and sister. She was their caregiver. She moved to Amarillo in July 2007 to be near her foster son, Joseph. Helen attended Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include her son, John W. Birdsong; her foster son, Joseph Serrato; two grandsons; a granddaughter; three great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Liberal Cemetery in Liberal, Kan. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
