Soldier of the Revolutionary War. Served for 7 years in the Continental Army, including Sheldon's Light Dragoons. He was with Washington's Army at Valley Forge (winter of 1777-78). According to family lore, he was a bodyguard to General Washington, but there is no evidence to support this.
After the war, he and his family settled in Putney, Vermont, but by 1803 had moved further north to Williamstown, where he lived as a farmer until his death.
