Civil War Confederate Soldier, Historian. Served during the Civil War in the 9th Kentucky (CSA) Infantry, which was part of the legenday Kentucky "Orphan" Brigade. He was promoted for bravery at the battle of Shiloh, and rose to be Sergeant-Major of the regiment. His wartime reminiscences were published in 1956 under the title "Johnny Green of the Orphan Brigade."
