J.W. Frerich's Efforts Lauded By Realty Men
Member of Eminent Domain Commission, Passing at 60, Was Long Active in Upbuilding Seattle
Seattle real estate men yesterday lauded the work of one of their number for Seattle, J.W. Frerich, who died Monday at his home, 2023 East Roy Street, at the age of 60 and was succeeded as a member of the Eminent Domain Commission on Thursday by John S. Hudson, Seattle architect and builder.
Mr. Frerich came to Seattle in 1903 and soon became interested in real estate. He started his own business as Frerich & Co., continuing that business until 1918, when he became affiliated with Henry Broderick Inc. On March 3, 1913, he was appointed an Eminent Domain Commissioner, serving in that office until his death. For many years he was the Federal District Jury Commissioner. He also was a Director and a member of the management committee of the First Realty Corporation.
Pays Tribute
Henry Broderick, in paying tribute to Mr. Frerich's memory, said last night:
Mr. Frerich's death is a distinct loss. He was an ardent advocate of all things looking to a better city and his work while an Eminent Domain Commissioner has been of incalculable value to the community. Our firm feels deeply his passing, both as a true friend and a splendid business man.
Mr. Frerich, who was born in Calmar, Iowa, in 1870, is survived by his widow, Mrs. Katherine Frerich; a daughter, Mary Louise and three sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church, the Knights of Columbus and Modern Woodmen of America participating.
