OBITUARY:

St. Landry Clarion (Opelousas, LA)
Aug. 05, 1899, page 3

Died, at the family residence, in Opelousas, on Sunday morning, July 30, at 9 o'clock, Theodore Chachere, aged 69 years and 23 days.

In the death of "Uncle Theo," as he was fondly called by all, a devoted husband and father, a benevolent and self-sacrificing friend, and Christian gentleman has gone to rest.

Mr. Chachere was one of the fathers of this section. He was probably one of the first merchants here, and all during the war kept store in Opelousas. In those days of darkness and privation, is when Mr. Chachere's kindness of heart shone out in its fullness. It has been said that he was the commissariat of the distressed people of St. Landry parish.

His life at home was indeed a model. If he could speak to us from the grave, it would be of his wife and children, of his personal friends, of his companionship with things about home. The loss of his wife, but a few months ago, was a deep affliction to him. May we not hope that in the immortal life promised by our Christian faith, the profound belief of humanity from the earliest ages, that which we believe in but can not prove, the spirit of Uncle Theo will be found worthy of a place among the spirits of those who in this life have been honorable, true and faithful to the honest convictions of duty.

He leaves four sons to mourn his death: Robert, Homer, Gustave and L. B.

Son of Beaurepaire Chachere and Eugenie Lavergne.

Grandson of Louis D. Chachere and Catherine Vauchere.
