Joan graduated from Holy Spirit High School and began working in banking in Atlantic City. In 1951, she married the late Harry C. Maxwell, Sr. and together they raised their six children. She was hired in 1970 as a teacher's aide in the Brigantine Schools and in 1980 began working in the Brigantine Board of Education office until her retirement in 2002. She was known for her kindness and sweet spirit. Joan was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family. She will be sadly missed by her 20 grandchildren, who were her grea joy along with her children Terry (Joan) Batten (Tom), Harry C. Maxwell, Jr. (Maureen), Barbara Levin (Mitch), Gary Maxwell, Robert Maxwell, and Stacey Porpora (Guy) also by many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
