According to James' death certificate, he was a plumbing and heating contractor.

JAMES L. RYAN WILLISTON James L. Ryan, 64, of 60 Porterwood Drive, Williston, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 1996. in Fletcher Allen Health Care, MCHV Campus. Jim was born in Burlington on Oct. 2. 1931, the son of James and Olive (Ledoux) Ryan.
Jim attended Burlington schools and served four years in the Naval Reserve. He was a machinist by trade, and worked for many years in the plumbing and heating industry.
On Aug. 16, 1949. he married Gloria Beaudoin, with whom he had nine children.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet Ryan; his mother, Olive Ryan of Newport; two brothers, Frank Ryan of Burlington and Patrick Ryan of Newport; sons and daughters, David Ryan of Monkton, Patricia Hamilton of Bradenton, Fla., Kathleen Warner of Milton, Eileen Krause of Yuma, Ariz., Gloria Mansfield of South Burlington, Michael Ryan of Burlington, Dennis Ryan of Castleton, Rebecca Washburn of Fairfax and James Ryan of Essex Junction; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Ryan.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at V.F.W. Post 782, 176 S. Winooski Ave., Burlington, from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the American Heart Association, 12 Hurricane Lane, Williston, Vt. 05495. The family was assisted by Elmwood-Meunier.
