Obituary -- William Herman Vinkenberg

William Herman Vinkenberg was born in Engter, Germany*, on April 11, 1860, and departed this life at the home of his youngest daughter , Mrs. Josephine Olson, on May 1st, at the age of 82 years and 19 days.

When he was 20 years old he came to America, settling in Wisconsin, where he was married to Bertha Eick. Later he moved to Thayer County, Nebraska and became a citizen of the United States. To this union were born 12 children. His wife and five children have preceded him in death.

In Wisconsin, he was a member of the Lutheran Church. Later, when moving to Thayer County, he became a member of the Friedensau Lutheran Church, west of Hebron.

He leaves to mourn his passing five daughters and two sons: Charlie Vinkenberg of Alexandria; Ida Beisner of Beatrice; Bertha Hissong of Hebron; Fred Vinken berg of Gilead; Emma Mitchell of Salida, California; Doris Schroeder of Haddam, Kansas and Josephine Olson of Alexandria. He leaves too (sic) 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a number of relatives, and a host of friends. Since his wife passed away eight years ago, Mr. Vinkenberg has made his home with his youngest son, Fred.

Services were held at the Christian Church Monday afternoon, Rev. Hendrickson of Alexandria, assisted by Rev. Livingston, conducted the service. Interment was made at Rose Hill Cemetery.
