George Stonewall Crocker Jr., 69, died May 12, 1998. Mr. Crocker was born in Norfolk and was an entrepreneur. He formerly owned the Galleon Esplanade, A Restaurant by George, The Rear View Mirror, the Cabana East Motel, the Beacon Motor Lodge, the Treasure Gallery and the Beach Mart. Mr. Crocker was developer of North Ridge, Nags Head Acres, Long Lake and the Enclaves. He was founding member of the Outer Banks Community Foundation, a member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was the son of the late George Stonewall and Mary Brittingham Crocker Sr.

Surviving are two sisters, Thelma Crocker Mitchell and Hilda Crocker Carr, both of Norfolk; three nephews, Earle Mitchell, David Carr and Paul Carr; a niece, Rebecca Carr Davidson; and longtime friend, Glenn Salada.

Mr. Crocker wished for his remains to be used as an anatomical gift to Duke University Medical School.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church by the Rev. Brad Bradshaw. Memorial donations may be sent to the Outer Banks Community Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge.
