After the war, he attended Syracuse (New York) business college, then worked as a commericial traveler for 21 years before retiring from that profession due to poor health. He engaged in several other businesses in Vermont, and managed a gold mine in Georgia for a few years before retiring competely.
Obituaries were published in several Vermont newspapers, including the Springfield Reporter (Springfield, Vermont) on May 17, 1907.
