BRISTOL, Va. Mr. Harold Denny Snodgrass, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He was born Aug. 21, 1938, in Norton, Va., the son of the late James Woodrow Snodgrass and Erma Fields Snodgrass. He was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local 538 and was retired after 40 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having proudly served in the 101st Airborne Division while stationed in Germany. He attended Alvarado Bible Church. His family and friends will remember him as a wonderful woodworker, avid gardener, and especially for the love he had for his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carrie Sue Snodgrass of the home; three children, Debbie Fleenor and husband Chuck of Monterey, Tenn., Jeff Snodgrass and wife Connie of Valdosta, Ga., and Patricia Moore and husband William of Meadowview; grandchildren, Zach Fleenor and Mahala Fleenor of Monterey and Seth Fleenor also of Monterey, Stacy Fleenor and Mark Morris of Crossville, Tenn., Jessica Snodgrass of Lakeland, Ga., Joel and Jess Snodgrass of Valdosta, Sarah and Aaron Krause of Lakeland, Ga., Eli Snodgrass and Lindsay Bruno of Denver, Colo., and Chelsea Phipps of Norcross, Ga.; great grandchildren, Hayden and Jaxson Fleenor of Monterey, Hannah Vis of Lakeland, Marley Davis of Meadowview and Mason Pulley of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Dixie Hodges of Norfolk, Va., and Freda Wells of Wise, Va.; and his constant companion, Abbey Katt. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Junior Gobble officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m. prior to the service. A private committal service will be held in Mountain View Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. His grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. His granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care he received from the Palliative Care Unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 246, Abingdon, VA 24212.
