Stewart Edward Armstead, Jr.
GALVESTON — Stewart Edward Armstead, Jr., husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at his home in Galveston. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 25, 2005, at Grace Episcopal Church, 1115 – 36th Street, Galveston, Texas, with interment at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas.
Stewart was born in Houston, Texas on September 21, 1929, to Stewart Edward Armstead, Sr. and Zella Mae Arnold Armstead. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He graduated from Lamar High School, Houston in 1947 and attended The University of Houston. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict earning his Honorable Discharge in January of 1953. He was an accomplished businessman who established and operated his plumbing company. He loved spending summers in Seabrook and Galveston.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Margie Lewis and son, Albert Pecore Armstead, Stewart is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty Pecore Armstead of Galveston; sons, Stewart E. Armstead, III and Edwin Garrott Armstead; daughters, Julie Elizabeth McCullough and Nancy Lynn Peyton; daughter-in-law, Mary Armstead; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
His family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the Odyssey Care Team. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center or Odyssey Hospice.
