LEOMINSTER - BUC Dennis P. England (DV) SW USNR-R, 66 of 111 Second Street, Leominster, died Saturday, November 6, 2010 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester. He was born in Leominster, on May 23, 1944, the son of the late George J. and the late Irene (St. Cyr) England. Dennis grew up in Leominster and graduated from Leominster High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Navy SEAL's (US Naval Special Warfare) he was a BUC (Builder Chief) who graduated with class 40West. He was one of two Navy SEAL's who recovered astronaut Gordon Cooper from his Mercury Space Capsule in 1963. He worked for the Federal Government at Fort Devens for many years. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 28. He was a member of the Leominster Eagles and the Leominster Franco American Club. He enjoyed bowling, hiking, running, biking and playing racquetball. He leaves one son, Dennis P. England, Jr. of Leominster; a step son, William Hillman of Ashburnham; two step daughters, Lori Bourque of Fitchburg; Sharon Keaton of Pollo Beach, FL; one brother George England and his wife Joyce of Tampa, FL; four sisters, Leah St. Cyr of Machia, ME, Rosalie St. Germain of Treasure Island, FL, Cynthia Hazzard of Monroe, Georgia; Elaine Freeman and her husband Greg of Brandon, FL; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife, Judith (Bouvier) England who died in 1993; and by two sisters Judith Rivers and Joyce Beirholm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 10:00 am in the St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Cecilia's Cemetery.
