First Lieutenant, Neal Santoriello Jr; tragically died in Iraq on Fri., Aug. 13, 2004 while serving in Iraqi Freedom. He is mourned by his beloved wife, Lisa; parents, Diane & Neil Santoriello Sr; sister, Amy Beth, Penn Hills; he is the son-in-law of Thomas Santone & Cindy Zucaro, York. He is the cherished nephew of Debra L. Samara Davis, NY, John & Lynn Santoriello, Tom & Mary Ann Santoriello, Donna Getty, Donald & the late Gloria Santoriello, all of Pgh. Neil is the grandson of O'Neil Santoriello & the late Rose Santoriello & Ruth & Samuel Davis; 6 cousins also survive him. 1Lt Neil Santoriello Jr. was a selfless individual who did everything wholeheartedly. He was so proud & happy to be a tanker in the US Army. He loved his job & knew the dangers that came with, but it was the chance he took. Neil enjoyed teaching & demonstrating new things to others. He could not wait to have children of his own so he could teach them about tanks, fishing, skiing, camping, running, climbing, oatmeal cookies & all of his other passions. He was always an example to those around him. As a husband he was a dream come true to his wife. He made sure that she always knew how much he loved her & was proud of her, & spoiled her in every possible way. Neal was a son that a mother & father could not be prouder of. As a brother he was a protecter, a counselor & a best friend; as a nephew, Neil was an inspiration. For those who knew him, he was a perfect man in an imperfect world. Neil was always humble & never bragged. He was not in it for the rewards or metal & when he received accolades, he hid them. He did not want to be a hero, & when he died, he died in the company of heroes! Neil was a 1998 graduate of Penn Hills High School, & a 2002 graduate of Dickinson College where he served as the gold bar recruiter. Neil was an Eagle Scout in Troop 139 of Verona where he also served as assistant scoutmaster. He also served at Zion Lutheran Church. Neil also exhibited great kindness, loyalty & mercy to all that he touched. Visitation will be at SOXMAN FUNERAL HOMES LTD., ROTH CHAPEL 7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Rd.) Penn Hills on Sunday, Aug. 22 from noon until 9 pm. Funeral Services will be Monday Aug. 23 at 10 am at Zion Lutheran Church on Frankstown Rd in Penn Hills. PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH FOR FUNERAL SERVICES. There also will be visitation Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the Advent Funeral Home, 7211 Lee Highway in Arlington, VA. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday Aug. 24 at 9 am. The family asks all media to respect our privacy at all times.

VERONA, Pa. (AP) - A funeral service will be held Monday for a 24-year-old soldier killed in Khalidiya, Iraq. The service for Army 1st Lt. Neil Anthony Santoriello Jr., of Verona, is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Penn Hills. He will be buried Tuesday at Arlington National Cemetery, officials said.Santoriello was killed Aug. 13 when an explosive device detonated near his patrol vehicle, the Department of Defense said. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 34th Armor, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kan.Santoriello was a 1998 graduate of Penn Hills High School and a 2002 graduate from Dickinson College.
