OBIT: Bernard Alfred Barnhouser Jr., son of the late Bernard A. Barnhouser Sr and "Dottie" Lula G. (States) Barnhouser passed away March 26, 2010, in Nashville, TN. Bernie as he was known to his friends moved to TN some years ago however still has family in Maryland. He was born Feb. 10, 1949 in Baltimore City. His maternal family moved to Baltimore in the 1940s from a very old family called Blackistons who left England in 1668 to escape persecution by King Charles II, whose father was executed. His father King Charles I's death warrant was signed by Judge John Blackiston and thus his family were persecuted when his son returned to the throne and ouster of Cromwell. The Blackiston family have lived in Kent Co, MD since that time over 300 years. His paternal family were of a mix of English, German, and Polish ancestry. His grandfather Joseph Sidney F. Barnhouser met and knew Babe Ruth during his time at the St. Mary's Industrial Orphanage. His earliest immigrant Barnhouser ancestor was Capt. Richard Barnehouse who arrived in America in 1640 from Bristol England where his ancestors had been long-time mariners of the open seas. Richard settled in America to escape the despotic reign of Oliver Cromwell. In his youth, Richard Barnehouse had been a captive in Algiers and recounted his story in the English High Court of Admiralty after his release, thus the Barnhouser family has been in America for over 300 years as well. Bernie was predeceased by his parents and only brother David A. Barnhouser, Sr. He leaves behind his ex-wife Charmaine M. (Guy) Barnhouser, his 3 children Laura M. Almony, John A. Barnhouser Sr., and Dorothy G. Sanders. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren - Kayla M. McDonald, Guy E. Almony Jr., Constance M. Cummings, John A. Barnhouser Jr., Samantha R. Barnhouser, Sarah N. Barnhouser, Merrick R. Sanders, and Brayden M. Sanders. The Avenue News Apr 1, 2010 P. 13

Barnhouser Sr and "Dottie" Lula G. (States) Barnhouser. Bernie was formerly married to Charmaine May (Guy). He was predeceased by his only sibling David A. Barnhouser Sr. and his parents. His paternal grandfather Joseph Sidney F. Barnhouser was orphaned in 1902 when his mother died and was raised in the St. Mary's Industrial School at the same time as Babe Ruth. Joseph and Babe became friends through that association. When King Charles II came to the throne the family were ostracized in England and decided to move to America and settled in Kent Co, Maryland in 1668/1669 where they continued to live until his mother moved to Baltimore in the 1940s.
