Jerry Riley, age 79, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 in Tulsa. Services are pending at this time.
Jerry Garland Riley was born March 20, 1934 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Theodore Roosevelt Riley and Ida Clinton Riley. His father was a full blood Creek Indian and mother was pure blood Euchee Indian. He departed this life Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 5 days.

Jerry attended school in Bristow, Tulsa University, Rogers State College and American University, Washington D.C. Jerry Riley and Margaret Spence were married in Bartlesville; enjoying 44 years together before her passing in January 2011. Jerry served in the United States Army for 17 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran and a POW. He served on many committees, such as Vice President of the Oklahoma War Veterans Commission, National Chairman for the Native American Veterans Inter-Tribal Association, Chaplain of the Oklahoma Veterans Council, Chaplain, Scholarship Committee, State Legislative Chairman, Department of Oklahoma Veterans of Foreign War Finance Committee, The Muskogee VA Medical Center Management Assistant Council, life member of the DAV, life member of the VFW, and past commander of VFW Post #3656.

On the local level he served as an Intake Claims and Benefit Officer, Vice Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Service Officer of Post 3656, Veterans Advisory Board of U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe and U.S. Congressman Frank Lucas, a member of the Native American Ministries of Oklahoma, and State Chairman for homeless veterans for the VFW. As well he served on the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Diversity Committee.

Jerry was very involved with the youth and young adults of Bristow. He worked with the Elementary and High School Football and Baseball Programs, the High School Career Counseling and the Lions Club Youth Programs. As well, he received a medallion for service from the Justice of the Supreme Court of Oklahoma. In his free time, Jerry enjoyed teaching the true Euchee language of his Native Euchee Tribe, attending Pow-Wows, research, reading and spending time with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Margaret, two sons, John Dean and Terry Crownover; brother, Gene Riley, sister, Judy Riley and one granddaughter, Stephanie Stakis.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1pm, Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Chuck West Field House in Bristow with Pastor Harvey Gill and Pastor David Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens.
