Charlene Bennett Welch, age 91, passed away on June 22, 2013 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth with family by her side. In recent years, she lived at her home in Duluth, where with dignity and grace, she had battled Alzheimers and recent recurrence of cancer. She had been a Christian since 1937 and a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Duluth since 1992. Prior to marriage and becoming a full-time homemaker, she was a Civil Service worker. She enjoyed writing, was an avid gardener and crocheted and quilted. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William H. Bud Welch, her parents, Leonard and Essie Jane Moon Bennett, her sister Anne B. Mauldin and brothers; Grady, Tifton & Newman Bennett. She is survived by her children; son, Michael & Amelia Welch; daughters, Janis Fain, Patsy Sweeney, Shirley & Reed Chitwood; seven grandchildren, Angela Maddox, Jennifer Fain, Tim & Amy Sweeney, Emily & Dave Fournier, Jeff & Molly Sweeney, Greg & Sara Sweeney, Adam Chitwood; great grandson, Parker Fournier; brother, Lathan L.D. Bennett; sister in-laws, Mildred Bennett, Lyla Bennett, Jessie Daniel, & brother in-law, George Welch; many nephews and nieces as well. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve Wood and Rev. David Lyle officiating. Interment at Peachtree Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening June, 25, 2013, from 5:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt.
