Born Nunzio Ippolito, in Montevago, Sicily. Emigrated by ship to Ellis Island. 1917 was inducted into the National Army in Camp Dix. WWI service in France. Fought in Argonne Offensive and was wounded. War trophies were a French Lebel bayonet and his 1911 Colt. Reenlisted in the Army Air Corp. 1921 to 1924 where he flew out of Mitchell Field,LI,NY.
He shortened his name to Polito and the US Army misspelled his name to Pulito.
Buried with his wife Josephine Turano Polito and daughter Angela Lorreta Polito in the military section of HolyHope Cemetery, Tucson, Arizona.
