He was married about 1876 to Mary E Thompson (1853-1927), the daughter of William R "W R" Thompson and Martha Ann Hunt.
A farmer, Samuel and Mary lived most of their married life in Graves County, Kentucky. He died of cancer on October 1, 1825 in Murray, Calloway County, Kentucky and was buried the next day in Burnetts Chapel Cemetery in Graves County.
