Elder Robert Speer, age 87 of Poyen went to be with his Lord and Savior, June 24, 2013. He was born April 28, 1926 in Alexander, the son of Lawrence and Stella Barth Speer. Robert worked for the Highway Department when he was called into the ministry. He pastored numerous churches over a period of 61 years and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He also loved to do carpentry work. Robert was a lovig husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was especially fond of his two great-grandchildren who he called Princess and Little Buddy. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by six brothers.

Left to cherish his memory, wife whom he married on May 30, 1946, Verla Gentry Speer, sons Bob Speer (Kay) Billy Speer (Cheryl) Timothy Speer and Paul Speer all of Poyen; grandchildren, David Speer of Poyen, Michelle Crow (Kurt) of Midway, Brian Speer (Brittany) of Poyen and Brooke Speer of Poyen, great-grandchildren, Ava Speer, Sutter Speer, Smantha Crow and Alee Crow; brothers Bill Speer of Benton, Lloyd Speer of Plainview, and Tom Speer of Vimy Ridge and sister Stella Gentry of Vimy Ridge.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 26 from 6:00-8:00pm at Regency Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 27 at 10:00 at Regency Funeral Home with Brother Don Goodman and Brother Kevin Spirlin officiating. Interment will be in Lindsey Poyen Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Hollis Hardin, Eddie Watson, Claude Hardin, Truman Fite, Ralph Nichols, Kenny Fite, Phillip Roark, Dennis Roark and Paul Walker.
